Pikergill Reed Frog

The Pickergill Reed Frog effort will be an initial beneficiary of EWI's conservation efforts. This particular frog is critically endangered and has only 5 breeding sites left due to the draining of swamps for development into residential and industrial areas.
Ushaka Marine World has already embarked on a captive breeding program as has the Johannesburg Zoo. EWI is committed to funding research and additional breeding programmes with the aim of having an EWI specific breeding programme developed and implemented by no later than July 2017.
